How can we help you?

Periodontics

Periodontal diseases, such as gingivitis and periodontitis, are chronic bacterial infections that affect the gum and bone supporting the teeth. They are caused mainly by the accumulation of plaque on all surfaces of the teeth and result in swelling within the supporting tissue. If left untreated, it could lead to tooth loss. Our office deals with this specialty of dentistry through the maintenance of health, the diagnosis and treatment of gum disease, as well as the placement of dental implants.

Preventative Care

At Pim Street Dental, we believe that regular dental hygiene maintenance is a key factor in achieving long-lasting dental health.

Often, people find themselves busy with their work or their social lives that they forget to take care of their dental health. This can lead to many complications later in life, including: bad breath, decay, gum disease, root canals, and even oral cancer.

Our maintenance program includes regular oral hygiene care and examinations including:

  • Scaling
  • Root Planing
  • Polishing
  • Fluoride
  • A Professional Examination
  • An Oral Cancer Screening
  • Digital Radiographs (X-Rays)

Dentures are removable dental appliances that replace missing teeth and their surrounding tissues. Custom dentures are made to resemble your own teeth and give you a natural (and possibly even improved) smile.

Dental implants look, feel and function just like your natural teeth. Dental implants can be used whenever at least one tooth is missing, and they have become an increasingly popular solution over using bridges & dentures because a dental implant is a permanent replacement for the visible part of the tooth and tooth root. If a missing tooth isn’t filled, the teeth surrounding the space can drift, the opposing teeth in the other arch can erupt further into the oral cavity resulting in a change in your bite, facial structure, bone erosion, and possibly even changes in speech.

At Pim Street Dental, our dentists will do everything possible to preserve your natural teeth, but sometimes, it may at times be necessary to remove one or more that are beyond repair. For example, periodontal disease could be too advanced to save the tooth, or there could be advanced tooth decay, or a tooth isn’t strong enough to remain intact for a root canal. Whenever possible, a dental implantbridge or dentures can be used to replace a missing tooth.

Root Canal treatment which is also known as an endodontic treatment removes infected, injured or dead pulp from a tooth. Root canal treatment is a good alternative to extraction and it can save your tooth.

During the treatment your dentist will remove the damaged or dead pulp and clean, shape and fill the remaining space. This procedure seals off the root canal. Root canal therapy helps to save many teeth and is a good alternative to teeth extractions.

Our Technology

The safety, health, and dental care of patients are our top priorities. Thus, we prepare treatment rooms before and after each patient, by thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting surfaces. As well, all of our instruments and equipment are cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized. We have invested in state-of-the-art sterilization technology in order to protect our patients and staff from contamination and infection.

In our office, we use digital radiography technology to take a “snapshot” of your teeth, resulting in a clearer image and more accurate diagnosis. Digital radiography (x-rays) work faster than a traditional x-ray, use no chemicals, and reduce your exposure to radiation by up to 90 percent.

This is the power of 3D diagnosis and treatment planning. Traditionally, dental x-rays showed you only a 2D picture. Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT) is a 3D dental scanning technology that provides us with detail never imaginable a few years back. All this at a fraction of the radiation than conventional medical CT scan

  • Diagnosing pathologies (infections, cysts, tumours)
  • Identifying vital structures prior to surgery (nerves, sinus, bone volume)
  • Digitally guided implant placement and restorative design (see section below)
  • Aids diagnosis and treatment of difficult root canal cases and advance periodontal conditions

CT scanning is the gold standard in implant treatment planning and pre-surgical assessment.

Soft Tissue Lasers are used by the Dentists to sculpt and repair soft tissue and to perfect the harmony and symmetry of your gums. Lasers are used by our highly trained Hygienists to help keep your gum tissue healthy. Lasers have been shown to be more effective in certain surgeries and because of their sterilizing properties, improved healing time and comfort levels are achieved.

Ultrasonic scaling and root planing removes and repairs the effects of plaque and tartar below the gumline, helping prevent and treat periodontal disease.

An ultrasonic scaler is a wand with a small scaling tip that produces a soft ultrasonic vibration. The small, quick vibrations, combined with a steady stream of water, carefully and meticulously remove plaque and calculus from the top of your tooth all the way down to the bottom of the tooth pocket, near the root surface.
