HYGIENE SERVICES

Periodontics

Periodontal diseases, such as gingivitis and periodontitis, are chronic bacterial infections that affect the gum and bone supporting the teeth. They are caused mainly by the accumulation of plaque on all surfaces of the teeth and result in swelling within the supporting tissue. If left untreated, it could lead to tooth loss. Our office deals with this specialty of dentistry through the maintenance of health, the diagnosis and treatment of gum disease, as well referrals to our local periodontist when warranted.

Preventative Care

At Pim Street Dental, we believe that regular dental hygiene maintenance is a key factor in achieving long-lasting dental health.

Often, people find themselves busy with their work or their social lives that they forget to take care of their dental health. This can lead to many complications later in life, including: bad breath, decay, gum disease, root canals, and even oral cancer.

Our maintenance program includes regular oral hygiene care and examinations including:

  • Scaling
  • Root Planing
  • Polishing
  • Fluoride
  • A Professional Examination
  • An Oral Cancer Screening
  • Digital Radiographs (X-Rays)

BOTOX

THERAPEUTIC BOTOX

Botox (botulinum toxin) is an injectable treatment which helps relax muscles in the face, jaw and head. Although more commonly known for a cosmetic treatment to address wrinkles, Botox is clinically proven to temporarily relax muscles causing pain. Botox is one of many options available for someone with headaches, facial pain and bruxism (teeth grinding). To get started, a consultation appointment can be booked to plan your individualized treatment.

DENTURES

IMPLANTS

Dental implants look, feel and function just like your natural teeth. Dental implants can be used whenever at least one tooth is missing, and they have become an increasingly popular solution over using bridges & dentures because a dental implant is a permanent replacement for the visible part of the tooth and tooth root. If a missing tooth isn’t filled, the teeth surrounding the space can drift, the opposing teeth in the other arch can erupt further into the oral cavity resulting in a change in your bite, facial structure, bone erosion, and possibly even changes in speech.

DENTURES

DENTAL EXTRACTIONS

At Pim Street Dental, our dentists will do everything possible to preserve your natural teeth, but sometimes, it may at times be necessary to remove one or more that are beyond repair. For example, periodontal disease could be too advanced to save the tooth, or there could be advanced tooth decay, or a tooth isn’t strong enough to remain intact for a root canal. Whenever possible, a dental implant, bridge or dentures can be used to replace a missing tooth.

DENTURES

ROOT CANAL THERAPY

Root Canal treatment which is also known as an endodontic treatment removes infected, injured or dead pulp from a tooth. Root canal treatment is a good alternative to extraction and it can save your tooth.

During the treatment your dentist will remove the damaged or dead pulp and clean, shape and fill the remaining space. This procedure seals off the root canal. Root canal therapy helps to save many teeth and is a good alternative to extractions.

DENTURES

RESTORATIVE AND COSMETIC

Not satisfied with the look of your smile? Cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of your teeth, mouth and overall smile. Thanks to advances in cosmetic dentistry techniques, our dentists can help improve your smile with efficient, painless and affordable treatments.

Some clinic days, we also work with a Restorative Hygienist. As usual, the dentist will see you at the beginning of the appointment to assess, freeze and prepare the tooth. From here, the Restorative Hygienist is able to complete the appointment by placing, finishing, and polishing your restoration.

Some of the restorative and cosmetic dentistry solutions offered at Pim Street Dental are:

  • Veneers
  • Bridges
  • Crowns
  • Composite fillings
  • Teeth whitening

Our Technology

Sterilizing Systems

The safety, health, and dental care of patients are our top priorities. Thus, we prepare treatment rooms before and after each patient, by thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting surfaces. As well, all of our instruments and equipment are cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized. We have invested in modern sterilization technology in order to protect our patients and staff from contamination and infection.

Digital Radiography

In our office, we use digital radiography technology to take a “snapshot” of your teeth, resulting in a clearer image and more accurate diagnosis. Digital radiography (x-rays) work faster than a traditional x-ray, use no chemicals, and reduce your exposure to radiation by up to 90 percent.

Intraoral Scanning

Our office has an intraoral scanner (Primescan from Dentsply Sirona), which is used to replace traditional impression taking. A colour, 3D image is captured by the scanner for the purpose of impressions for crowns, bridges, night guards, or even for diagnostics. The scan is then sent digitally to the dental lab for fabrication of the appliance or restoration. The file is saved in the secure, cloud-based software so that it can be accessed at any time.

Intraoral Cameras

All of our treatment rooms have a camera which can take clear, detailed photos of your mouth. This can be an image of a full smile, to a zoomed in image of a part of a single tooth. This helps in diagnostics, and also in educating and showing our patients what things look like in their mouths.

Ultrasonic Scaling

Ultrasonic scaling and root planing removes and repairs the effects of plaque and tartar below the gumline, helping prevent and treat periodontal disease.

An ultrasonic scaler is a wand with a small scaling tip that produces a soft ultrasonic vibration. The small, quick vibrations, combined with a steady stream of water, carefully and meticulously remove plaque and calculus from the top of your tooth all the way down to the bottom of the tooth pocket, near the root surface.
